Sapura Energy appoints key senior executive for its engineering & construction business

Financially troubled Malaysian contractor Sapura Energy has appointed Dominique De Soras, as the chief executive of its engineering & construction (E&C) business.

The company confirmed his appointment on Thursday, stating: “as a seasoned oil and gas professional, Dominique brings over 30 years of experience spanning transformation, petroleum engineering, operations management, business development and acquisitions, as well as major project delivery.”

Sapura in the middle of a sweeping financial restructuring process and De Soras is expected to lead the company’s turnaround initiatives in the E&C segment.

“Over the years, Dominique has honed his leadership in an international and multicultural environment, with multiple assignments internationally,” Sapura said.

De Soras beings on board extensive experience as a board member of a diverse range of companies across the globe and had joined Sapura in July last year as the deputy chief executive of its E&C business, it said.

Sapura Energy’s group chief executive Datuk Anuar Taib said the new appointment “bodes well for Sapura Energy”.

“Dominique will lead the way for E&C as we deliver on our commitment to ‘Bid Right, Execute with Discipline,” he said.

Along with De Soras, Sapura also named Norzaimah Maarof as the new group General Counsel.

“Norzaimah brings to the fold almost 30 years of wide-ranging corporate commercial expertise across diverse industries including renewable energy, healthcare, technology, pharmaceutical, chemical, agribusiness and plantation,” the company said.

Sapura said that Norzaimah “is well-versed in the areas of corporate and organisational restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and capital and debt markets with a strong governance, risk management, compliance and legal background.”

Anuar Taib noted that Norzaimah will be instrumental in leading the company’s legal and compliance functions, managing risks as well as strengthening corporate governance and business policy.
